The Dragonlance Movie
When I heard there was going to be a Dragonlance movie based on Dragons of Autumn Twilight I was ecstatic. When I heard it was an animated movie, I thought perhaps it would be better not to have a Dragonlance movie at all, rather than have a bad one that would just blemish the good name of the fantasy setting.
So, I've been on the fence about the upcoming Dragonlance movie, until last weekend at Dragon*Con. Margaret Weis had a sneak preview of the animated film, and an unofficial trailer to show us. Before the trailer was shown she said it will NOT be a theatrical release, but straight to DVD. That was the last straw for me -- there was nothing left to look forward to.
But, by the end of the next hour, what I saw and heard of it completely changed my mind. Marrgaret and Tracy are so happy with the finished product, that they are glad that it was done this way. The fact that its straight to DVD means it will start turning a profit waaaay sooner than if it had been theatrically released. Weis and Hickman believe this will make if far easier to sell the 2nd and 3rd books into films, which could eventually lead us to the elusive, much anticipated, live-action film.
The trailer was so much better than what I could have hoped for -- it gave me goosebumps while watching it. I am agog with anticipation. The studio was so impressed with the product they moved up the release date to November 2007. I just wanted to convey my excitement after seeing the trailer. I hope when you see it, you enjoy it as much as I did.
