Sci-Fi Movie Days Postponed

Today was the last Sci-Fi day at the library until further notice. Apparently, one of the board members of the library has decided we can't show them until we get permission from the movie company for each movie we want to show. We're going to start that process soon, but unfortunately it could take up to a year.

This is a huge blow to the Sci-Fi community of Baton Rouge. We are considering petitioning the library, and if you would like to help in doing this, we sure could use the help.

In the mean time, if anyone has a venue where we could show Classic Sci-Fi Movies for educational purposes, please let us know. If we find a place suitable for 10-30 people to view a movie on a projector screen, we would be happy to move.

Today's movie was to be "The Day the Earth Stood Still". I took some of the people that tried attend to my house and we showed it there. One interesting this that came from this was our viewing of the Movietone News reel in the Extra Features menu. There was a report on The World Science Fiction Convention, which was being held in New Orleans that year (1951), and they gave 20th Century Fox and Klatu an award for outstanding Sci-Fi. I wasn't sure this was the same group, but of course it is, WorldCon was in New Orleans in 1951 and 1988. When are they coming back? www.nesfa.org/data/LL/TheLongList.html
